There were so many smaller, personal conflicts that to me felt petty and a little contrived, and I think it took away from the greater conflict. This is in direct contrast to Catching Fire, which I thought grew out of The Hunger Games and escalated the conflict in that world brilliantly.

And then I thought both Allegiant and Mockingjay tried to do too much and so the end of both series fell a little flat for me (but not because of any particular thing that happened or didn't happen, which seems to be the complaint a lot of readers have).

I'm not a super-fan of either series. I think I just felt more let down by Divergent because I loved the concept and felt like the series could have been a lot better than it was... like maybe if there wasn't an obligatory romance! Love the series. Read all of Divergent in a week and loved them equally. So while I say I love them equally, if forced to pick, I'd pick Divergent. When I imagine myself in one of them, I can't pass up living in a place where I'm expected to do nothing but read and learn (Erudite). Beats any district any day. And I think Four was better than Gale and Peeta combined.Jen G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17538822370778351872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1929369424588700011.post-81146955605051121002014-03-19T16:01:32.219-05:002014-03-19T16:01:32.219-05:00I would probably vote THG, too, though I have plus...I would probably vote THG, too, though I have pluses and minuses for both. I loved, loved, loved Divergent, but Insurgent kind of dragged until right at the end and I am not biting at the chomp to read Allegiant, though I do want to still. Of course, I didn't like Mockingbird that much. It seemed like mostly filler and I felt like Collins was trying to tie up everything with a nice big bow and that kind of irked me since it wasn't what I was hoping for. I’ve read all three books in a week. I really couldn’t put them down and read till early in the morning. I think I slept for 5 hours a day that week. I’ve also read the complete Divergent series by Veronica Roth but the last book wasn’t really what I expected. I couldn’t get ‘into’ it. And sometimes I almost wished the book would just end already. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Divergent series but with the Hunger Games I was completely pulled into that world. I couldn’t think about anything else for days. I loved Katniss and her personality. At times I didn’t really like Tris.
Yes, I definitely would choose The Hunger Games.Maureen's Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14814734057422089865noreply@blogger.com
